i haven’t posted in a very long time but i feel like i have a cause that needs to be heard. i’m a bleeding heart when it comes to animals and i want to educate people about pit bulls. there’s so much negative press on them and they don’t deserve it. they are great dogs. no breed is inherently bad. any dog can be aggressive. the media chooses to play into the stereotype that pitties are all vicious when it’s just not true. it’s the same as saying everyone of a certain race are violent because a tiny percentage of that population is violent. it’s ignorant. other breeds attack but those stories never make it on the news. the majority of all dogs are not going to attack anyone. it’s a small percentage that attack and again, it could be any breed from chihuahua to great dane. there are a lot of places with breed specific legislation (BSL) that discriminates against the entire breed of pit bulls because they buy into the stereotype. families are torn apart because of these ignorant laws, sometimes having to euthanize their four legged family member just because it’s a pit bull. most of the dogs euthanized are only done so because of their breed and not because they’re vicious. there is some hope that people will start to understand what a great breed these dogs are. here are some links to what’s been going on to change things:

when you see someone out walking their pit bull, give them a chance to show you how wonderful their dog is.

Hi Everyone! I know I haven’t used Tumblr in a very long time, so trust me when I say this is important. My sister is part of a rescue organization in Los Angeles, and about 10 days ago she rescued this dog, Oleo, from a kill shelter. In spite of having spent his entire life tied to a tree and abused — you can see where his skin grew over his collar — he still loves and trusts people. My sister found him a foster home, and thought all was well. Yesterday, Oleo dug his way out of the yard of his new home and was lost. My sister drove around his neighborhood looking for him for 4 hours until she found him. He’d been hit by a car. She’s taken him in but he is seriously injured and needs surgery.
She has set up a Chip-In account which is a secure, quick, and easy way to donate. Any small amount you can give, or any reblogs would be much appreciated. There are so many dogs, animals, and yes, people, out there that need our help — but if we can all give a little bit to Oleo, we can save his life.
I haven’t been a part of the awesomeness that is the Tumblr community in a while, but I haven’t forgotten what it can do. Please help.

If we’re going to fight to keep an Islamic mosque and community center from being built near Ground Zero then I think it would only be fair to also protest Catholic churches from being built near schoolyards and Scientology Centers from being built within 100 meters of anyone using formal logic.
